‘You’re not alone’: Greater Cincinnati woman running to raise infertility awareness

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A local woman is lacing up her running shoes to shed light on a topic that’s often stigmatized.

The Hengehold family longed for children, but when the time came, Katie struggled with infertility.

Now, she’s opening up about her struggles ahead of a marathon she’s running to represent the RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association.

Katie Hengehold’s road to motherhood fluctuated between hope and grief for years. She was pregnant for the first time in April of 2020 and couldn’t have been more excited for her future family. But all that came to a screeching halt.

“Your baby doesn’t have a heartbeat. You have miscarried. It was just kind of like shock, disbelief. I don’t remember much of what he said to me after that,” Hengehold said, repeating what her doctor told her.

She said she was able to get pregnant again, but that cycle continued two more times.
