Your Story is #MoreThan Enough to Make Lasting Change
By Danielle Melfi, CEO, RESOLVE

I didn’t expect destiny to be the theme of my first National Infertility Awareness Week® (NIAW) as CEO of RESOLVE, but there’s no other word for it.
Over the past seven days, I had a front row seat to how our community of volunteers, advocates, companies, and providers shows up: from an original rap, to proclamations, to groundbreaking media stories , to events that raise awareness and critical funds. I even had the honor of being part of lighting the Empire State Building our signature orange, a moment that stopped me in my tracks. A disease once whispered about behind closed doors being recognized by one of the most iconic buildings in the world? That doesn’t happen without this community.
As I reflect on those seven fast-paced days filled with events, meetings, and interviews, a theme kept showing up for me: destiny.
While NIAW was unfolding publicly, I was also having deeply personal moments behind the scenes. I connected someone dear to me with a RESOLVE support group and a mental health provider covered by their insurance – a reminder that no one’s access to support should depend on who they know. I had the privilege of meeting two women, both named Destini/Destinee, at different events in New York City, each of whom turned their own family building journey into a reason to show up for others. And then, on my train ride home, destiny quite literally found me a seatmate, someone from college who is a parent today because he had access to insurance coverage through his state’s mandate and employer.
These moments reinforced how many people are connected to this issue, often unseen, and how many more people RESOLVE needs to reach. The most powerful part of the week was the personal stories, whether shared in conversations, on social media, or through action. Tara Lipinski spent a day on Capitol Hill – not as an Olympian but as a mom using her story to push for access for those who don’t have it yet. Whitney Port used her voice to bring conversations about infertility to new platforms and audiences. Support group hosts turned the hardest thing they’ve ever experienced into a lifeline for someone else.
As CEO, one of my most important responsibilities is listening to and elevating the voices of our community. I know firsthand what a story can do as it was the stories coming out of Alabama in 2024 that inspired me to take control of my fertility future and freeze my eggs. I know stories don’t just raise awareness; they change lives.
What I know—and what NIAW reinforced for me—is that your story is #MoreThan enough to create lasting change.
My hope is that NIAW inspires more people to start sharing their story or continue telling it to new audiences, because stories are the power behind RESOLVE’s mission. Our stories matter, and more people need to hear them to make change possible.
Your next opportunity starts now. In May, RESOLVE kicks off our first inaugural Month of Action where we turn the momentum of NIAW into meaningful advocacy. Sign up today because #ThePowerofWe is how change happens—and perhaps it’s your destiny.
