Statement from RESOLVE on Senators Cruz and Britt’s Proposed IVF Bill
Barbara Collura, President and CEO of RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association and leader of the organization’s Fight For Families Campaign, issued the following statement in response to legislation introduced by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) to protect IVF:
“We appreciate that Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Katie Britt (R-AL) have expressed a commitment to support IVF, a stance that 85 percent of Americans share. We have concerns, however, with how the bill is drafted. The bill allows for states to push for regulations that could severely reduce the standard of care for IVF treatment, such as restrictions on how many embryos are created and what individuals can do with these embryos — decisions that should only be made between patients and their doctors, based on science and clinical guidelines.
“The solution is federal legislation that enshrines access to IVF for all. Fortunately, the Access to Family Building Act introduced by Senator Duckworth is currently being considered and would prevent any restrictions on this life-changing care. We call on members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to come together and pass this legislation immediately.”
