RESOLVE to make a difference in 2021
February 2, 2021
RESOLVE is not one to rest on its laurels. After a year where we worked with local advocates to secure significant victories for families despite the pandemic – including passing a new IVF and fertility preservation law in Colorado and overturning the ban on compensated gestational surrogacy in New York – we immediately turned our attention to helping more families, in more states, in 2021.
Over the summer we began planning for the new legislative season with the Building Families Coalition, comprised of our steadfast advocacy partners, American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and Alliance for Fertility Preservation (AFP), with support from EMD Serono and Ferring Pharmaceuticals.
We know that the 2021 advocacy landscape will be challenging, as state legislatures remain focused on addressing the pandemic and economic issues. We plan to make the case that family building legislation aligns with these priorities and to highlight what Colorado Governor Polis said upon signing our Colorado Building Families Act: “The bill will help families have children in the wake of COVID-19 and is important for our state’s future economic success.”
We couldn’t agree more. In fact, our Building Families Coalition is working with grassroots coalitions in more states than ever before, including in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin; we are also supporting our friends at RESOLVE New England on legislation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont.
So far in 2021, we are already tracking 31 bills in 19 states. In addition to IVF and fertility preservation insurance bills, we support legislation that protects adoption and surrogacy, and we oppose personhood and other legislation that restricts family building options.
Protecting and increasing access to care is our number one priority, and your voice is the number one voice – it’s not RESOLVE, it’s not our national coalition, it’s not a paid lobbyist. It’s YOU! It’s all about grassroots advocacy – by patients and professionals and everyone who cares about family building for all.
We need you to add your voice in 2021. The Access to Care team is ready to help you become the grassroots advocate you never knew you could be:
