Indiana Bill Number: 1 ss

Abortion. Prohibits abortion unless: (1) the abortion is necessary to prevent a substantial permanent impairment of the life of the mother; or (2) the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest. Specifies other requirements for performing an abortion. Prohibits an abortion clinic from performing a surgical abortion. Defines "abortion", "pregnancy", "rape or incest", and "fetus".

Bill was introduced on 7/25/2022 and referred to Senate Rules and Legislative Procedure Committee. Bill passed the Senate on 7/30/2022. Bill has passed to the House Committee on Courts and Criminal Code on 8/1/2022. Bill 1 ss was signed into law on August 5, and will take effect September 15, 2022. IVF will remain legal in Indiana.
