(May 13, 2019) The following statements were issued today in advance of a press conference on the issue of legalizing gestational surrogacy in New York:
“This is a despicable and shameful attack and we demand that anyone affiliated with this smear campaign issue an immediate apology to the thousands of New Yorkers who are struggling to conceive a child. Surrogacy may be the best option for many people who have been unable to start a family of their own. Proven and common-sense best practices developed over the past three decades – reflected in the Child-Parent Security Act – include strong protections for surrogates. These heroic individuals, who want nothing more than to help provide the gift of life to families, deserve better than to be smeared in such a shameful way,” stated Risa A. Levine, New York resident and Board of Directors, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association.
“It is incomprehensible that any group purportedly representing women would launch such a despicable attack on New York families who are struggling to conceive a child. Prospective parents are not “third party exploiters” making a profit, they are our friends, neighbors and relatives. New Yorkers deserve every option available to build a family, and no one should be shamed and smeared for pursuing those choices,” stated Barbara Collura, President/CEO of RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association.
